Whilst other guides are predominantly concerned with the legislation and process, they have attempted, wherever possible, to include guidance on good practice and worksheets for carrying out each part of the plan.

Census information from MVDC  quick summary:

  • 2001 Census stated that the population of Ashtead was: 13,467 people.  Ashtead Common = 4040 people.  AshteadPark = 3796 people.  AshteadVillage = 5658 people.  The total population of MoleValley at the time was = 80,287 people.  As a % Ashtead’s population was therefore 17% of the District’s population.
  • Since 2001 the population of MoleValley has increased by 6.3% (5088 people).  2011 Census.
  • You could say that as in 2001 the population of Ashtead accounted for 17% of the District’s population, 17% of the growth between 2001 and 2011 has taken place is in Ashtead.  A rough estimate of the 2011 Ashtead population could be on this basis – 14332 people (an extra 865 people based on 17% of 5088).
  • Alternatively you could base an approximate population on the increase in new homes between 2001 and 2011.  So in 2001 there were 13467 people living in 5582 dwellings in Ashtead – an average household size of 2.41 people.  Since 2001 there have been 226 net additions to the housing stock in Ashtead.  So 226 net additions at approximately 2.41 people per dwelling is an increase of 545 people.
